Born in 1955, I saw my first and big rock concerts in the seventies, most of them in the Deutschlandhalle (R.I.P.) - with groups as Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Grand Funk Railroad, Jethro Tull, Colosseum, Ten Years After, The Who, Santana, a.s.o.
Very special events were the open-air festivals in the famous Waldbühne. I liked them very-very much, i.e. the All-Music-Festival 1971 (Earth & Fire, Mythos, a.o.), the Super-Pop-Festival 1972 (Steamhammer, Man, Hawkwind, Ekseption, Atomic Rooster, Can, Amon Düül II, Frumpy, Triumvirat, a.m.o.) and the 1st Summer Rock Festival 1973 (Beck/Bogart/Appice, Thin Lizzy, Wizzard, Nazareth, Family, Groundhogs, a.o.).
Many concerts I saw in amazing venues as Quartier Latin (R.I.P.; Kraan! Grobschnitt! a.m.o.), Sportpalast (R.I.P.; Pink Floyd!), Neue Welt, Taverne am Lützowplatz (R.I.P.), Kant-Kino, Alte TU-Mensa (Can!), Philharmonie (Tangerine Dream), a.s.o.
In the eighties I got infected by punk, industrial and experimental music. That means groups as Einstürzende Neubauten, Abwärts, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Tuxedomoon, Cure, Throbbing Gristle, Blurt, Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, U.K.Subs, Killing Joke, Dead Kennedys, S.P.K., Bad Brains, Residents, La Fura dels Baus, Stiff Little Fingers, Psychic TV, a.m.o.
Most of these concerts/gigs I saw in the legendary S.O. 36 (still existing!). Others in clubs named Music Hall, Metropol, Loft, Exxcess, Sector, Empire, Ecstasy, Swing, a.s.o. - all may R.I.P.
In my opinion, today allmost nothing compares to the seventies and eighties, but my musical interests are still alive (while ticket prices grew up fucking high), but my visits of concerts became rare. During the last years, I enjoyed The Prodigy, Kraftwerk, The Swans, Rammstein, Metallica, Sunn O))), Walls of Jericho, a.o.
Not to old for rock’n roll – rock on!
